Kenan & Kel is an American teen/comedy sitcom produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions that originally aired on Nickelodeon from July 15, 1996 to July 15, 2000.
Premise[]
The show is set in Chicago, Illinois, and centers on the antics and misadventures of two mischievous teenagers, Kenan Rockmore (Thompson) and Kel Kimble (Mitchell). Kenan is a scheming, get-rich-quick type with a job at Rigby's, a local grocery store, while Kel is his clumsy, orange soda-loving best friend. Introduced to the show during season 3 were Sharla Morrison (Kenan's co-worker) and Marc Cram (Kenan's next-door neighbor), both of whom quickly befriend Kenan and Kel, and who both have their own quirky characteristics.
Episodes always open and close with Kenan and Kel breaking the fourth wall (while still being in character), interacting with the studio audience and each other while standing in front of a red curtain that is placed in front of the main set.
A frequent running gag of the opening would be Kel never knowing what the night's episode would be about and Kenan refusing to tell him, despite Kel's pleas. The closing would frequently feature Kenan coming up with a new scheme – often asking Kel to get three assorted, various items and meet him at a random location. Frazzled, Kel would exclaim his catchphrase, "AWWW, HERE IT GOES!"
